China International ITS Industry Expo 2026 (CITSE) will be held in Xiamen from May 13 to 15, with a supporting series of CITSE Research Week activities running in parallel with the expo. During this CITSE Research Week, we will link up benchmark smart transportation projects in Xiamen, opening a window for you to intuitively feel technological changes and industrial trends. 1. Smart Airport
Xiamen Airports (YUANXIANG)
As the first civil airport in East China to launch a commercial unmanned logistics tractor project, it has successfully realized unmanned round-trip transportation on fixed routes between Terminal 2 and Terminal 4, boosting operational efficiency. To ensure safety, the vehicles are equipped with multiple technologies including a four-way calibrated positioning system, with special designs for battery safety.
In addition, the domestically pioneered intelligent automated storage warehouse at Xiang'an Airport features 9 four-way shuttle vehicles + 4 elevators, 1,480 storage spaces and a storage capacity of 1,480 tons, enabling highly efficient operation of the fully automated access system.
At the baggage sorting center, Zhaoxiang Intelligence's self-developed "RFID+AI Trajectory Reconstruction" technology realizes full-process visualization of baggage sorting, transportation and extraction, reducing the error rate to one in ten thousand. Passengers can check the real-time location of their baggage, enabling rapid tracing of misrouted luggage.
2. Green Energy
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL)
Founded in 2011, CATL is a global leading new energy innovator dedicated to the R&D, manufacturing and sales of power batteries and energy storage systems. Boasting strong technical strength, CATL has ranked first in the world in power battery consumption for eight consecutive years (2017–2024), with a market share of 37.9% in 2024. It has also topped the global energy storage battery shipment rankings for four consecutive years, holding a 40% market share. With business covering the globe and in-depth cooperation with many mainstream automakers and energy enterprises, CATL has built a full industrial chain ecosystem. Driven by technological innovation toward green development, the company continues to provide core impetus for the global electrification transition and carbon neutrality goals.
Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport: All pure electric shuttle buses, baggage trucks and tractors are equipped with CATL batteries.
Ningbo–Xiamen Heavy Truck Battery Swapping Trunk Line: The entire route spans approximately 420 kilometers, with 4 battery swapping stations (bidirectional at Changle and Luoyangjiang Service Areas). Each station is equipped with 8 battery packs, each with a capacity of 466kWh. Battery swapping takes only 5–7 minutes, providing a driving range of 250–300 kilometers per charge.
3. Smart City
Xiamen's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
Since its opening in 2008, Xiamen's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system has built a "radial + ring" network featuring 8 main lines and 3 peak-hour lines, with a total mileage of over 200 kilometers by constructing elevated exclusive lanes. This enables fast and on-time service similar to the metro. The system is equipped with intelligent dispatching and multi-mode payment functions, and offers seamless transfers with the metro at multiple stations. It recorded an average daily passenger flow of 216,400 in 2023. The stations integrate local cultural elements such as Minnan red brick architecture and the Tan Kah Kee style, highlighting humanistic care. Looking ahead, the BRT is advancing low-carbon and smart upgrades including vehicle electrification and intelligent lighting, continuously improving the quality of urban public transport services.
4. Smart Port
Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal Co., Ltd. (XOCT)
Put into commercial operation in March 2016, Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal Co., Ltd. (XOCT) pioneered the layout scheme of stacking yards parallel to the wharf. It features remote operation of quay cranes, automated guided vehicle (AGV) horizontal transportation, and unmanned yard operations with rail-mounted gantry cranes, achieving fully unattended operation throughout the process. The terminal is also equipped with a self-developed intelligent loading and unloading control system.
As the first smart port in China with full-scenario 5G application, XOCT has realized the deep integration of 5G and core production links. It is also the first dedicated sea-rail intermodal transportation line in the country to achieve fully automated operations, enabling true data connectivity and unmanned circulation across the "ship-port-rail" chain. In the command center, a digital twin dashboard builds full-chain situational awareness for "ship-port-road-cargo". Driven by AI and big data, it enables collaborative scheduling of multiple objectives, vessel arrival prediction, dynamic berth allocation, and optimal configuration of equipment resources.
