In order to further promote the development of a smart and comprehensive railway information infrastructure with features such as high-speed, ubiquity, and integration of air, ground, and space and to ensure the standardization of the information systems of various railway business sectors, the R&D center of the railway Beidou application has created the "Railway Spatiotemporal Information Service Platform". As a common basic technology platform at industry level, it is an integration platform for railway spatiotemporal information data, which is used to build a professional geographic information database. Based on the Beidou Navigation Satellite System, it extends such services as positioning, timing, and short-message communication with a high level of accuracy, thus connecting "when, where, and what kind of relationship". It is basically made up of two main components: the Railway Geographic Information Platform and the Railway Beidou Application Service Platform.
Beidou Application Service Platform
This platform is oriented by the Overall Plan for Railway Informatization, and it mainly emphasizes the resource sharing, integrated application, and high-quality services. It serves the core functions of the system in a number of different ways:
1. Service Provision
Unified High-Precision Positioning Service: It is able to give positioning In real-time with a precision ranging from centimeter-level to sub-meter-level, and in quasi-real-time with millimeter-level precision.
Unified Timing Service: It delivers very accurate time to terminal devices and business application systems.
Unified Communication Service: It makes possible short-message communication of the kind: terminal devices to terminal devices; terminals to the Beidou platform; terminals to the ordinary mobile phone users.

Onboard Beidou High-Precision Spatiotemporal Reference Unit
Its main concern is to create an onboard spatiotemporal reference for the mobile airport equipment and thus to ensure the consistency, safety, and reliability of the railway onboard spatiotemporal reference system, and to be a source of high-accuracy positioning and timing services for onboard devices.
The set-up consists of a spatiotemporal reference unit, a transmission network, the Airport Beidou Application Service Platform, and a station-level ground system.
1. Capability to Adapt to Complex Environments
When a plane loses connection to satellites, the internal high-precision navigation module, radar, and time taming module of the plane can still be used to generate high-precision positioning and timing data continuously. It can also do the timely calibration to correct accumulated errors when recovering the signal.

Under the platform's differential services, it is possible to attain high-precision positioning.
It is also the time synchronization method for all the devices which are onboard and it can be done either by GNSS satellite time or a ground clock source.
Onboard devices are facilitated with high-speed wireless data transmission services and the transmitted data is encrypted/decrypted for security purposes.
