Smart airport solution

An integrated system combining AI, IoT, and automation to optimize airport processes—including check-in, baggage handling, flight scheduling, and passenger flow management—boosting efficiency and traveler experience. Smart airport solutions integrate digital tech across travel and operations to boost efficiency, experience and safety. Passenger-facing features: self-service check-in, biometric security and real-time flight info, cutting waits. Operational tools: AI scheduling, intelligent baggage tracking and automated ground handling.

I.‍‌‍‍‌ Digital Twin Core Features and Implementation

A smart airport powered by digital twin is characterized by four core features: 4D and 4E data perception, 4L and 4P operation management visualization, 4P and 4C business modeling, and 4D and 4S simulation & prediction. The three pillars of empowerment are the basis of its implementation:

    • Data Empowerment: Build a IoT-based multi-source data collection network, fully integrate physical world perception systems (e.g. IoT, video analysis, and high-precision positioning), and realize data sharing and integration.

    • Platform Empowerment: Create a smart airport middle platform as the informational base that can support the mirrored operation of the digital and physical airports.

    • Model Empowerment: Combine AI with airport physics, data, rules, and passenger service behavior models to finally achieve the digital and intelligent management of the physical airport. It is intended to create a "dynamic-static integrated airport nerve center" that can cover the airfield area, terminal area, and the entire airspace.

II. TravelSky's Full-Element Management Platform Architecture

The platform is five-component system: "a ubiquitous access network, an airport middle platform, a full-domain & full-element digital management platform, an operation management map, and a cross-platform APP":

    • Ubiquitous Access Network (Infrastructure Layer): As the airport cloud platform and ITC management system, it collects (through IoT, manual reporting, etc.) and transfers multi-source data by itself and thus is the data basis for the whole system.

    • Airport Middle Platform (Support Layer): A data governance and capability sharing platform, it consists of five sub-middle platforms:

    • Technology Middle Platform: A cloud-native open foundation that enables personalized development.

    • Digital Middle Platform: Manages the 4D-4S data of flights, passengers, and luggage, and sets industry data standards.

    • Business Middle Platform: Converts the airport operation and service businesses into atomic services for quick new scenarion incubation.

    • Capability Middle Platform: Offers a variety of SaaS and API forms for the purpose of cutting down the redundant construction of the same thing.

    • Mobile Middle Platform: Uses a componentized + cross-platform model to support the fast adaptation of APPs for different systems.

    • Full-Domain & Full-Element Digital Management Platform (Core Application Layer): The business core of the digital twin, it consists of six modules:

    • Panoramic Operation View: Visualizes the management of contracts, processes, and assets in such spaces as the airfield and terminal thus making interaction possible between different terminals.

    • Air-Ground Integration Subsystem: Based on A-CDM (Airport Collaborative Decision Making) it integrates air traffic control, airline, and other information, connects flight operations and passenger services through data, and staffs management and control with more accuracy by means of intelligent gate assignment and variable taxi time calculation.

    • Terminal-Apron Integration Module: Concentrates on the "data-business-decision" collaboration in the terminal, it forecasts passenger boarding time for the best use of TOBT (Target Off-Block Time).

    • Airfield Management Subsystem: The one characterized by the concepts "safety and efficiency" which shows the full-element data and unified supervision as well as supports the standardized management.

    • Emergency Management Subsystem: Security and FOD (Foreign Object Debris) being the main integrations, it covers the stages of emergency pre-preparation, in-event handling, and post-event evaluation.

    • Simulation Subsystem: Through multi-dimensional perception and analysis it is able to optimize operational processes like aircraft taxiing.

    • Operation Management Map (Display Layer): Allows multi-terminal display (e.g., large screens, PADs) and is combined with big data BI (Business Intelligence) analysis to give decision support to the management. The cross-platform APP that is based on the mobile middle platform makes it possible for airport services to be integrated.

III. The Worth and Aims of the Digital Twin

By introducing cloud computing, big data, AI, and 5G as the main technologies, the solution goes beyond mere informatization of traditional infrastructural facilities. The model algorithms enhance the airport's predictive capabilities, and in the end, the digital twin airport comes into being, a truly operational-element-integrated and overall-perception-capable entity. This leads to the management, operation, and service models of the airport being transformed, the optimal solution for flight operations being found through a process of trial and error, and high-quality leapfrog development becoming a reality.
